A pound of fat is 3500 calories. You need to burn 175000 calories more than you normally do to lose 50 lbs of fat (though you will have some muscle gain as well). If you eat 500 fewer calories a day, and burn 500 calories more through exercise each day it will take you 175 days, or almost 6 months to burn off 50 lbs of fat.

Try to do much more than this and it will stress your body.
